Privacy Policy

Connecting Cumbria is a partnership between Cumbria County Council and BT and aims to bring fibre broadband to as many residents, businesses and visitors as quickly as possible with the funds available. The project is being funded by Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and BT.

We are committed to handling personal data and protecting your personal privacy in accordance with the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

How do we collect information?

We will collect personal information from you in the following ways:

  • when you submit an enquiry or complaint,

  • when you attend a meeting or event

  • when you submit your details to our register of interest .

When we refer to “personal information” in this privacy policy, we mean information, which identifies you as an individual, or is capable of doing so. Accordingly, we may hold and use data about you in your capacity as a consumer, a business customer, as an individual acting on behalf of a business customer, or in any other capacity, for example, when you visit our websites.

We receive non-personal address information from Openreach to identify broadband coverage of premises.

We also collect non-personal address and business information from third party data sources such as Companies House, District Councils and Cumbria County Council. This is used to inform residents and businesses of the availability of superfast broadband. 

What information do we collect about you and when do we collect it?

Connecting Cumbria collects the following personal data:

  • your name,

  • your personal email address/contact telephone number(s),

  • your superfast broadband requirements

And the following non-personal data:

  • your business name,

  • your business address/contact telephone number(s)

How do we use this information?

We will use your personal information for the following reasons:

  • to provide you with information

  • to respond to an enquiry/complaint

  • to provide you with ongoing information about the roll out of superfast broadband;

  • to assess the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.

Connecting Cumbria will not rent, sell or lease this personally identifiable information to other companies or individuals.

Data Sharing

Your information may be shared with the following third parties/data processors:

  • BT Wholesale/Openreach (British Telecommunications PLC, 81 Newgate Street London EC1A 7AJ) - for the purpose of checking the availability of superfast broadband;

  • Broadband Delivery UK - for the purpose of checking the availability of superfast broadband;

Your Rights

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you a number of rights in relation to the way the council manages your data. 

You can access, rectify, modify and delete any data held by Connecting Cumbria that refers to or identifies to you. To exercise any of these rights please contact:
