Skip main menu

Fed up of slow broadband? Unable to receive fibre broadband? Check if you can receive a subsidy to get better broadband now.

A subsidised alternative technology broadband installation is available if you cannot currently access a broadband service with a speed of at least 2 Mb per second by any other means.

The Government through its Broadband Delivery UK team, a part of the Department of Culture Media and Sport, has made a commitment to provide every home and business in the UK with access to a basic broadband service so that browsing the web and keeping in touch with families and friends is easier.  This subsidy scheme provides support towards the cost of equipment and installation of alternative broadband technology (such as satellite, fixed wireless, 4G or community built broadband) connection so that a basic broadband service can be purchased for a first year cost of no more than £400 (taking account of any upfront costs and the 12 month service charges).

Its important to remember before you apply for this subsidey that if fibre broadband has been deployed in your area your existing connection will not automatically go faster therefore you should check whether you may already be able to order an improved broadband service using the checker - http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/this external link will open in a new window. Please note taking out a broadband service under this Scheme will not prevent your premises from being considered for superfast broadband in the future.

If, after checking all of you broadband options, you believe you cannot access a speed of at least 2 Mb per second you may choose to apply for a subsidy.
