Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

As part of the Government’s Rural Gigabit Connectivity programme business and residents in some of the hardest-to-reach places in the UK are eligible for additional funding towards the cost of installing gigabit-capable broadband to their premises when part of a group project.

Rural premises, experiencing speeds below 30 Megabits per second (Mbps), will be eligible for between £500 and £3,500 per small and medium-sized businesses (SME) and between £500 and £1,500 per resident to support the cost of installing new gigabit-capable connections.

For more information please visit https://gigabitvoucher.culture.gov.uk/rural/

Digital Borderlands Voucher Scheme

The Digital Borderlands Voucher Scheme offers additional funding to help eligible rural businesses and residents in Cumbria and Northumberland connect to gigabit capable broadband. Homes and businesses with broadband speeds of less than 30Mbps can use vouchers to support the cost of installing new gigabit-capable connections when part of a group scheme. Group projects are when two or more residents and/or SMEs get together to combine their vouchers towards the shared cost of installation.

Digital Borderlands funding is a ‘top up’ to the Government’s Rural Gigabit Connectivity Voucher scheme. For more information please visit https://www.borderlandsgrowth.com/Digital-Voucher-Scheme

The benefits of a full fibre Gigabit broadband connection include:

●  allowing businesses to upload and download massive files in a matter of seconds

●  enabling widespread use of videoconferencing throughout an organisation

●  providing an unprecedented level of reliability whilst greatly enhancing resilience

●  future proofing - making sure that businesses have the technology in place to deal with the ever increasing demands for internet speed and connectivity.

●  allowing businesses in remote communities to compete on a technologically level playing field with those companies based in major cities who may already have full fibre connectivity.

Funding for the scheme is limited, so businesses in Cumbria are encouraged to contact a supplier as soon as possible!

If you would like your business or organisation to benefit from the scheme the first step is to find a registered supplier.

To see which suppliers are offering vouchers please visit the  Find a supplier page  on the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport website. There is no application process to complete, if a registered supplier can provide a gigabit capable connection to your business premises they will offer the voucher as a discount towards the installation costs.
